COMBINE (Computation and Mathematics for Biological Networks) is a University of Maryland NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program. COMBINE is an innovative, cross-disciplinary program that trains graduate students to integrate methods from computational, physical, and mathematical sciences to gain insights into the principles governing living systems. The COMBINE program utilizes a network-based, data-driven approach and is usually undertaken alongside a PhD degree program in Computer, Mathematical, Physical, or Life Sciences. (Interested candidates from other degree programs are also welcome to apply.)
COMBINE fellows have access to advanced interdisciplinary coursework, travel funding for conferences, career development resources, internship opportunities with partner participants, and cross-disciplinary mentoring. One-year NSF-funded stipends ($34,000) are available on a competitive basis.
At the Annual COMBINE Symposium, current COMBINE fellows will showcase their research, and COMBINE faculty will be available to discuss research opportunities for current UMD PhD students interested in joining the Fall 2019 COMBINE cohort.
