Are you interested in interdisciplinary research that draws on the methods and tools of different fields? Would you like to learn more about the research of interdisciplinary-minded faculty?Would you like to get some hands-on experience brainstorming about interdisciplinary projects?
Join us at the The 2021 COMBINE (Computation and Mathematics for Biological Networks)
Lightning Workshop to connect with researchers who integrate approaches from multiple fields -including computer science, engineering, physics, applied mathematics, life sciences, and more.
UMD grad students who are interested in applying methods from network science to the study of biological and bio-inspired systems are especially encouraged to attend.
When: Friday, February 19th, 2021, 1-3pm
Where: Zoom
Tentative Schedule:
Part I: 1-1:45pm: Faculty Lightning Talks and Student Introductions: Faculty will give 2-minute, ‘lightning talks’ about their interdisciplinary work in the form of pre-recorded videos. See list of participating faculty below. Graduate students will also give brief introductions stating their program, career stage, and interests.
Part II: 1:45pm-2:30pm: Making Connections – Students Provide the ‘Glue’: Student
participants will self-organize into small groups to brainstorm about possible new collaborations involving multiple faculty members. The outcome of these group discussions will be project pitches for faculty, including a list of potentially interested students. More instructions will be given at the meeting.
Part III: 2:30-3pm: Project pitches: We’ll come together for the small groups to present their project ideas to both faculty and students.
